We all know that a Poodle dog named Sandy is our first hero at Your Hearing Dog Inc. He was donated to us by the dog breeder Carmen of Little Paws Poodles. Sandy is taking on nearly two years of training to become a hearing dog to support and help his new handler, Kathy, from the Hearing Loss Association of America.
Let’s briefly examine the poodle dog’s history, personality traits, behavior, temperament, and care.
History
The poodle dog originated in Germany. Poodle in German is pudel, meaning “puddle” or “splash” from 1800c. They were used as retriever-hunter ducks, which is why they love water. The French aristocracy loved them for their intelligence and hair coat, which can be styled in many ways. They have been used in circuses because they are easy to train and look elegant. They have competed in canine sports and competitions like agility, tracking, duck diving, trick dogs, and so on.
