At Your Hearing Dog Inc., we strive each day to support the deaf and hard of hearing community, providing specially trained dogs to become their owners’ ears and companions. For hearing individuals, the ability to hear a phone ringing, a knock at the door, or a car horn honking may go unnoticed. However, for those in the deaf and hard of hearing community, having the opportunity to join the hearing world in this way, with the assistance of a hearing dog, is life-changing. As some may have read in our previous blog post we are continuing to move forward in the process of training Sandy, the first hearing dog for the organization to provide this transformation in a life. With many waiting for their own hearing dog, and the extensive nature of training a service dog, we need your support to be able to continue providing these dogs to as many as possible.
How you can help
There are a number of ways to help and support Your Hearing Dog Inc., with many that can be done from the comfort of your home. Here are some of those opportunities:
- Volunteer: Share your time, skills and talents remotely to support Your Hearing Dog Inc. in an ongoing role. Periodically, volunteers are needed for in-person events as well. For anyone also interested in joining a Board, there is an immediate need for Board members.
- Donate: Contributions in any amount helps make a difference in a deaf or hard of hearing person’s life and with fully training hearing dogs, a cost which is over $20,000 for one dog.
- Fundraisers: There is still time today to join YHD’s Valentine’s Day Puppy Dog Kissing Photo Contest and submit a photo of your dog sharing their love. If you are also located in the Pueblo/Pueblo West area in Colorado, stop by Sunset Inn Bar & Grill and Snap Fitness to view and bid on some great silent auction items, benefiting Your Hearing Dog Inc.
- Join a challenge: Beginning in March, raise donations by walking 30 miles with your dog. You will even receive a bandana for your dog following your first donation!
- Share: Spread the word on social media to help us reach more to join Your Hearing Dog Inc.’s community and support deaf and hard of hearing individuals. Join our Facebook community, as well, to stay up-to-date about all we are doing.
With so many opportunities and ways to support Your Hearing Dog Inc. and the deaf and hard of hearing community, we hope everyone will find a role that works for them.
